The mission of the Nominating Committee is to identify, recruit, and recommend members of the congregation to serve in positions of ordained leadership on the Board of Deacons and the College Hill Community Church Session. They also assist in identifying and recruiting individuals to fill temporary project roles such as co-chairing our annual stewardship campaign or serving on the Pastoral Nominating Committee.
Based on vacancies, the Nominating Committee is formed with an active member from CH ministries. Each year at the annual congregational meeting, the Nominating Committee presents a slate of nominees to fill the soon-to-be-open Deacon an Elder positions. Nominations are also taken from the floor at that time. Then the congregation votes on whether to accept the nominees into those positions.
The work of the Nominating Committee is not about judging or disqualifying people. It’s more about searching for people who might feel called to serve in those positions and would be willing to commit to a 3-year term. They are always looking for willing volunteers and are happy to talk with anyone about what it really means to be an Elder or a Deacon.
